Chettiar was worried about his only son
For whom life was nothing but fun.
The old man indeed was at a loss
How to get the message across
To the good for nothing blooming youngster
His ways would take him but to disaster.
One evening Chettiar went to a lecture
On holy Ramayan, our sacred scripture.
The Bhagavathar quoted Thyagaraja,
Who extolled Sri Ram, the great Raja,
As past master in the art of strategies,
Sama, dana, beda, danda and that with ease..

Chettiar returned home and shared with his wife
How he would change his son's life.
At the dinner table he talked to his son
Using the gentle way of persuasion.
Days went by, but no change at all
Chettiar on the next option had to fall.
He gave his son a credit card
And thought he had played his trump card.
The boy crossed the credit limit
And did not worry even a bit.
Then the boy was told to behave his age
Just  like other boys of his age.
Still he stuck to his wayward ways
And Chettiar was left to curse his days.
When the old man, so worried,
In his car to his shop hurried,
He rammed into a motorbike from behind
And the result was indeed  very unkind.
He was then rushed to a hospital
Where he was slowly getting well.
His wife was happy to break the news
Their son was no more like  what he knew.
He looked after business seriously
And had improved variously.
"Thyagaraja was right" Chettiar thought,
Only, he got the danda, but so what?
